Cuckfield is the village that turned the railway away in the 1840s, which is the whole reason Haywards Heath got the station and the growth instead. What Cuckfield kept was its High Street, a proper run of period cottages and Georgian frontages, with 20th-century closes tucked in behind. We cover RH17 from about five minutes away, and most of our call-outs here are plumbing: burst pipes in old runs, cylinders giving up, and the odd blocked drain where clay pipework meets a tree root.

We come in along the A272 from Butler's Green, up Broad Street and onto the High Street, with Whitemans Green and its playing fields at the top of the village. The thing about Cuckfield's older houses is that the plumbing has usually been reworked four or five times since the war, and it's the joins between eras, lead to copper, copper to plastic, that fail first. The drains are older still.

Most common Cuckfield jobs

  • Burst pipes in period cottages, the pipework's older than the owners think
  • No hot water, often an ageing cylinder or a tired feed
  • Blocked drains where Victorian clay runs meet tree roots
  • Leaks traced through walls that have seen three centuries of plumbers
  • CCTV surveys before a buyer commits to a period property
  • Outside pipework frozen and split after a cold snap

Cuckfield FAQ

Rarely in practice. Clearing a blockage or fixing a leak doesn't touch the historic fabric, and drain relining is trenchless, the new liner goes inside the existing pipe, so there's usually nothing for a conservation officer to object to. Where a job would genuinely alter the building, cutting into old walls or lifting original floors, we'll say so before we start and work out the least invasive route with you.
